An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If you take care of your computer and equipment, it will last longer, and you will have fewer problems and less headaches.
We’ve put together this document showing our recommendations for taking care of your system. We recommend printing it out for reference.
A good antivirus program is CRITICAL. Over 50% of our work is because of avoidable viruses and spyware. The average cost to remove spyware and viruses is $120 or a complete data backup, rebuild and home installation for $300.
The antivirus programs we recommend, in order of reliability are:
- ESET (consistently high, we use this to remove spyware from customers computers)
- Norton (slows your PC down though, and misses items)
Free Programs are less effective, but better than nothing:
- Avira Free (lots of pop-up reminders)
- AVG Free or Microsoft Security Essentials Free
We recommend ESET and use it to remove viruses on all our spyware removals. It’s normally $50 at Microcenter, but by buying in bulk, we get a discount.
If you don’t have ESET or yours is about to expire:
$40 Pick up a copy from us, register, download and install yourself
$45 We will register it for you, and email you a code. You can download and install yourself (takes you about 20 minutes)
$50 Start a remote or Bring in your PC and we will register, download, and uninstall your old antivirus, then install ESET in about 30 minutes.
(Renewal Prices are $5 less. Free installation when you bring your PC in for any service, repair or tune up.)
If you already have ESET, we suggest that you download the latest version 5 so you are protected with their latest scanners. This is a free download, and will transfer your old subscription to the new version. You can get this from our website by clicking on SOFTWARE, then down to ESET UPDATE.
